What ammunition is used in an air rifle?
There are several types of ammunition or pellets, each one has a use, we have previously talked about pellets:
Wadcutter Pellets: Wadcutters are the most preferred for the sport of target shooting, so they are not widely used for the Small Game. This type of pellet has a wide and round head, hence its name. When this type of pellet is fired at a paper target, it causes large holes in it. Many target shooting sporting events use the Wadcutters in their competitions, some professional events use them as well.
Pointed Pellets: Pointed Pellets can keep flying much longer than Wadcutter, we talked about these recently, you can check our review here. But this type of pellet is recommended for medium distances, it hits well at these distances. When we speak of a medium-range pellet, we affirm that this pellet easily penetrates greater distances than a Wadcutter (of course), but also at greater distances than a domed pellet and this is important to take into account, because it is its shape rather than its weight which helps you reach these distances.
Hollow Point Pellets: It is recommended to use them at medium distance to take advantage of their maximum power. If you try to use it at a long distance, the resistance of the wind will cause it to lose speed and it may not make the desired impact at that distance as you would expect at a short and medium distance.
Be aware that the hollow point pellet tends to drift when used long distance shooting.
