The Basic Components of an Air Rifle Scope, how to identify them!
Today we are going to be evaluating what are the basic components of a telescopic sight.
This is very very important for us from the first moment we have to choose a telescopic sight until its daily use in the small game.
As we always say, having the proper knowledge of the parts and accessories of an air rifle will help us a lot in our favorite sport and even in our personal safety when using an air rifle.
Eyepiece Lens: This is the lens through which you look. The light collected from the target ends here.
Objective Lens: This piece of glass is the larger of the two ends and its only job is to collect as many photons as it can and send them to your eye.
Eyepiece: The part of the viewfinder that contains the eyepiece lens (the part you look through)
Focus Adjustment – Not always present, depending on what scope you get, but Focal Adjustment, simply put, will help you focus on your target. Especially useful if you wear glasses and your eye is slightly further away from the eyepiece.
Gain adjustment, or sometimes referred to as power adjustment. Not always present, but if your viewfinder has one, this setting controls the amount of magnification applied to the image. For example, if you use 3X, the image is enlarged three times.
Lighting control: not always present. Illumination (if available) will normally illuminate the sight.
Parallax adjustment: not always present. However, a good (read: expensive) scope will be set up to be accurate at a fixed distance. More on parallax later in the article. This adjuster is used in combination with higher magnitudes.
Windage: The scope will not be perfectly aligned with the barrel when you first adjust it. To set it up correctly, you can use the Windage and Elevation controls. The wind will adjust the sight horizontally, so if your rifle is firing left or right, you can correct yourself with this.
Elevation Adjustment – Similar to windage, elevation control is used when setting up your rifle and to compensate for inaccuracy. If your pools are too high or low, you can use the elevation controls to correct it.
